It's sort of hard to pick up on because the nature of the attack on sick leave and other work place rights was very underhanded and quickly back peddled on. But basically he introduced the "right" for workers to enter in individual bargaining with their employer to sell all their other rights for a price. Also that price could be zero or less. Also the government suddenly at the same time became unable to track the effect of these policies on wages, employment and workers rights.
It lost him the election that did. Big time. I'd LIKE to say Iraq, general conservative dickery and his pure unadulterated evil contributed but they were insignificant in comparison.
It was rather hilarious actually, all these loyal Liberal voters who had swallowed every false promise and inadequate pork barrelling from sold off public assets declaring that it was a blind siding act of sudden betrayal.
When all poor old Howard did was finally use the first opportunity the Liberals had to ram through their dream legislation to ram through their dream legislation they had been publicly wanking over since their very foundation, indeed that they were founded in order to wank over.
Watching the Libs crumble and tear each other to shreds, good times for one and all those were. I can't see something as nice coming from politics in the near future, not even when The Smirk pulls his "cunning" and "secretive" coup and falls flat on his face, which he eventually will...
